ErtelAlsop
announces the availability of "Triple Action" activated
carbon impregnated depth filter media.
As described by ErtelAlsop, "Triple
Action" refers to the medias ability to accomplish
controlled filtration, decolorization and deodorization, important
requirements for many pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and alcoholic
beverages. They point out that skillful blending of filter
aids and cellulose fibers with activated carbon yields submicronic
filtration and adsorptive treatment simultaneously. Also, controlled
carbon density assures uniformity and reproducibility.
The process of activation
of carbon (or charcoal) involves treatment with such agents
as steam, air, carbon dioxide or other substances at very high
temperatures. This increases the adsorptive powers tremendously.
Quoting Remingtons "Pharmaceutical Sciences",
it is estimated that 1 mL of finely divided activated charcoal
has a total surface area of approximately 1000 square meters
available for adsorptive retention.
The adsorptive capabilities
of activated carbon are well known and its use is widespread
throughout many industries where it is most often added as
a loose powder to the liquid product. ErtelAlsop manufactures
carbon impregnated, fixed media in a range of removal ratings
and configurations to fit most standard filter presses and
in lenticular cartridge format. They provide standardization
of carbon treatment in addition to simplicity and ease of operation
and handling. No separate step is required for removal of the
loose, finely divided carbon.
In addition to manufacturing
the carbon impregnated media, ErtelAlsop also manufactures
the filtration equipment designed to hold this media as well
as a full line of standard grades of filter sheets for other
applications. They offer free samples of all media for test
purposes upon request.
ErtelAlsop products
include pharmaceutical depth filter media made to strict controls
and included in a Drug Master File at the Center For Drug Evaluation
and Research of the FDA. Precision die cut media is available
for plate and frame and cylindrical filter presses and Zeta-Pak® lenticular
filter cartridges. ErtelAlsop also manufactures sanitary design
hardware for incorporation of these media.
